Orchestra for Earth and Sky
Lydia W, 05.2016
Sloping field at night, the tall grass joins the sky with a seam of treetops,
And in the field, and all over and in the grass, and drifting in decrescendo up into the trees – fireflies, too many to count,
A dazzling spread, the twinkling many – one here, one there, so many altogether – all moving, a shifting silent choir.
Above is the calm sea of stars and planets, shining steady, moving so slowly they’re almost still – the sustained organ pedals.
And in the east, far off, above the mountain ridge, the pink-white flashes of electric lightening, a distant storm, the rare brash cymbals.
Earth and air and sky in orchestration, and I – I am the listener, awed, silent.
